Spring 2014

  • Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,  and Pinterest accounts updated and launched.
  • Participated in the Celebration of Student Writing hosted by the Center for Writing and Rhetoric.
  • Hosted TutorCon 2014 in conjunction with UM-DeSoto, UM Tupelo, Ittawamba Community College, and Strayhorn High School Writing Center.
  • Visited EN 617 along with Dr. Alice Myatt to discuss writing center theory and practice with graduate students who would be teaching writing courses in the Center for Writing and Rhetoric.
  • Organized panel of writing center consultants to host a visit by Dr. Ben McClelland’s EN 617 course and to answer questions about the Oxford Writing Center.
  • Developed a Writing Center Policy and Procedures Manual and a variety of digital resources for new consultants.
  • Continued partnership with SHRP (Students in Health Related Professions) and the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
  • Developed recruiting materials and flyers for WRIT 301: Peer Tutor Training.
  • Participated in Skype meeting with Writing Consultants from the University of Sydney, Australia.
  • Established a partnership with Dr. Ethel Scurlock and the Luckyday Residential College to set up a Mobile Writing Center for students.
  • Director Brad Campbell appointed as President of the Mississippi Writing Center Association.
  • Director Brad Campbell continues service as Mississippi State Representative to the SWCA (Southeastern Writing Center Association) Board.
  • Attended MSWCA 2014 at Jackson State University with Graduate Assistant Director Ben Lowery, and writing consultants Anna Terry, Taylor Brack, and Sam Briete.
  • Consultants Same Briete awarded summer research fellowship with the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.
  • Consultant Alyssa Radtke accepted to the MFA program at the University of Memphis.
  • Hosted Dr. Lucille McCook of SHRPAO (Students in Health Related Professions Advising Office) as a guest speaker in the Writing Center to discuss with consultants the importance of writing samples in medical school application portfolios and improve tutoring strategies.

Summer 2014

  • Consultant Rose Kinney accepted to MFA program at the University of New Orleans.
  • Consultation Coordinator Christine Sim completed internship program with Congressman Steven Palazzo.
  • Consultant Amber McFarland accepted a research internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
  • Consultant Taylor Brack nominated for SWCA Undergraduate Writing Tutor Award.
  • Assistant Director Kate Sparks accepted a scholarship with the State Department Critical Language Program and worked in Hikone, Japan during the summer 2015 semester.
  • Consultant Anna Terry accepted a position with a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C.
  • Developed a digital employment application for writing consultant candidates.
  • Participated in Rebel Roundup and Ole Miss Orientation.
  • Established Mobile Writing Centers at Burns Hall, Hefley Hall, and the J.D. Williams Library. The Mobile Writing Centers began operation in the fall 2014 semester.
  • Established a partnership between the Writing Center and the Oxford Boys and Girls Club to provide tutoring support and learning resources for students during the summer 2015 semester.
  • Participated in two-day workshop and orientation for new and returning consultants in August 2014.

Fall 2014

  • Hosted National Day on Writing Event in partnership with the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation. Students wrote comments on the Writing Center glass walls and voiced their experiences with diversity and inclusivity.
